Taras

"Taras" is a modern Arabic typeface designed with editorial use in mind. Rooted in the cursive style of Thuluth, Taras stays true to the fundamental structure of the Arabic script, achieving a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, familiarity and presence. Its gracefully curved connections and flowing forms bring a dynamic vitality to the overall design.

With generous ascenders and descenders, along with relaxed proportions, Taras requires an ample line height to ensure optimal legibility. It is part of a larger font family (currently under development) that includes experimental styles, abstracting the Light and Bold weights. This experimentation explores the readability and legibility rules of Arabic, resulting in a small-scale study that offers valuable insights into the behavior of the Arabic script, with plans to extend the research into a larger-scale study in the future.
